After breakfast on board, guests who wish may join the optional Casablanca & Marrakech Tour organised by our guide. We begin with a journey of approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes to Marrakech. Upon arrival, we start exploring the city. Our first stop is the 19th-century Bahia Palace. Construction was initiated in 1859 by Si Musa, grand vizier to the Alaouite sultan Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman, and was later continued between 1894-1900 by his son Si Ba Ahmed ibn Musa, grand vizier to Sultan Moulay Abdelaziz. We will then see the Koutoubia Mosque, with its 77-metre-high minaret. It is Marrakech's tallest building and largest mosque. Along with the great Jemaa el Fna square and Menara Gardens, Koutoubia is a symbol of Marrakech. Its 77-metre minaret can be seen from 25 kilometres away and is illuminated in the evening, becoming the city's "spiritual lighthouse." Other sights we will see include Majorella Gardens, the souks, Jma El Fna square, known as the Courtyard of Miracles, and the bazaars. After our Marrakech excursion, we return to Casablanca and begin our city tour in Habous. Established by the French in 1930, this district combines traditional Moroccan and modern French architecture, with orderly streets, roadside stalls and beautiful houses. We then see the neo-Gothic Casablanca Cathedral (Sacre Coeur), Mohammed V Square and United Nations Square before heading to our final stop, the Hassan II Mosque. Morocco's largest mosque and the seventh largest in the world, it features Andalusian influences and will be viewed from the outside. After a short break on Casablanca's famous waterfront promenade, the Corniche, we return to our ship. Dinner and overnight on board.
